Oliver’s 7 in 7 challenge

Oliver Myers

A ten-year-old Warriors fan is set to put himself to the test over the course of the next week in order to continue our sport’s commitment to the MND Association, in support of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow.

Oliver Myers was inspired by watching archive action of the iconic RL star throughout the winter and has decided to set himself a physically demanding fundraising challenge that will begin on Saturday and conclude on a notable day in the sport’s calendar – Good Friday.

Oliver will cycle 7km for 7 days, ending with his final 7km on Good Friday around the DW Stadium with his father Stuart running alongside him throughout the challenge.

Talking proudly of his son’s heart-warming plans, Stuart explained:

“I cannot claim to take any credit for the initiative of completing the fundraiser, that was all Oliver’s idea.

“We had watched the several news articles at the time regarding Rob Burrow’s diagnosis with MND and then further coverage on Sky Sports in the build up to the Grand Final, alongside reading through the match day programme from the 2020 Grand Final.

“In the off-season, Oliver had taken to watching the older matches repeated on Sky, including those of Leeds and Rob at his best including ‘that’ try against St Helens. With that triggering his memory of Rob’s current situation, it led to him declaring his desire to raise money for the associated charity MNDA.

“His family is very proud of his willingness to complete the challenge to raise funds and awareness, he is already planning on what his next challenge may be and which charity to support.”

The initial fundraising target was £250 but generous donations from his family, friends, teachers and strangers too sees his current total at £700 at the time of publication and the hope is to raise more funds and awareness by the end of his challenge.

If you would like to back Oliver’s quest and show your support for the vital work undertaken by the MND Association in aid of all those facing up to Motor Neurone Disease, please visit his Just Giving page to donate now.
