Head coach Adrian Lam believes his side must make the most of their extended pre-season in order to hit the ground running when the Betfred Super League season begins.

The 2021 campaign is scheduled to begin from the 25th March, giving all clubs a longer break than in years gone by.

Speaking to Wigan TV, the Papua New Guinean discussed the benefit of an extended pre-season.

“The atmosphere is there. They are working hard and because of what happened last year, we’ve got a ‘why’ there for our goals. I’m really, really excited.

“We’ve got a really good opportunity to capitalise on the off-season that we’ve had. We will build blocks on what we had last year and hopefully 2021 will bring us some more silverware.”

One of the reasons Lam’s hopes are high for the coming campaign is because of the new recruits in the Wigan ranks.

After arriving in England and spending time in the first team environment, the head coach had plenty to say on Jai Field.

“I’ve watched him since he was 12-years-old. His style of play will suit Super League as it did with Bevan French. A traditional half through the juniors, he is creative and he’s got speed like you’ve never seen before. 

“He’s got that x-factor that Wigan fans will love. At some point in the season when we see both him and Bevan French on the field together, it will light up Super League.”
