Community Foundation: Changing lives through sport

The Club’s Community Foundation has returned to schools delivering activities and PE lessons to local children following disruption due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Since schools returned for the start of September, as part of the PEPASS+ service Wigan Warriors Community Foundation has provided a whole host of mentally and physically engaging activities for youngsters across the North West

The PE and School Sport+ offer includes Primary Rugby League, Creative Arts, Health and Wellbeing, teacher CPD and extra-curricular services.

With the world changing substantially in recent months, the work of the Community Foundation has had to adapt to enable school services to continue safely.

As part of the offer, schools can now access virtual sessions that can be delivered by teachers or Wigan Warriors Community Foundation staff.

Schools Partnerships Manager, Guy Woods, said: “Our objectives are to take Wigan Warriors to the heart of the community and help develop young people to achieve their potential.

“With the current climate and uncertainty within primary schools due to Covid-19, we have adapted our delivery offer to support schools and keep our young people happy, healthy and active.

“Providing teachers with access to virtual planning and delivery resources was a key priority. All resources fit in line with the national curriculum and are suited to young people of all ages and abilities.
