Smith: Keeping my spot

  • Harry Smith explains how he hopes to bounce back following Thursday’s defeat to Hull KR.
  • The scrum-half talks about his personal development this season after playing in all ten Betfred Super League games so far.
  • Smith: “Every game is a good experience and a learning curve, you need these experiences sometimes to learn how to come back from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Harry Smith says he has something to prove as Wigan Warriors aim to bounce back from Thursday’s defeat to Hull KR.

The 20-year-old went over for Wigan’s second try in the 34-18 loss, but believes there are plenty of things for him to improve on.

With ten appearances under his belt so far this season, the scrum-half wants to keep building and battling for his place in the team as the Warriors look to respond.

He said: “It wasn’t the best game for myself but I’m still learning and looking to develop my game every week, so hopefully I can be in the team again next week to prove a point and keep my spot.

“Every game is a good experience and a learning curve, you need these experiences sometimes to learn how to come back from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again, so it can be a positive.”

After making his first appearance for Adrian Lam’s side last September, Smith is happy with the progress he has made so far this season.

“My aim last year was to make my debut, so coming into pre-season I wanted to get a few games under my belt. Fortunately, I’ve managed to play nearly every game which is a real positive, so hopefully I can keep doing it.

20-year-old Smith has made ten appearances in 2020 so far.

“I’m in a great position at the minute with two great half-backs (Tommy Leuluai and Jackson Hastings) who I am looking to learn from in every session, which can only help me in both the short and long run.

“I just want to keep getting my place in the team and bringing an impact to the team.”
