Over the next few weeks we will take a look back at Wigan Warriors best matches ‘on this day’ from the last few years.

On this day (18th April 2014) the Warriors beat St Helens 14-33 in the Good Friday Derby, with Liam Farrell going over twice.

The scores were opened after just three minutes as Sean O’Loughlin went over from short range.

Sean O’Loughlin went over on this day in 2014 against Saints.

Saints quickly bounced back as Tommy Makinson levelled the scores with his first of the afternoon.

It wasn’t long until the Warriors regained the lead as two tries in five minutes put them in control, with Dan Sarginson and Farrell crossing the line.

The home side were able to narrow Wigan’s lead with Makinson going over again, before Jordan Turner added his name to the scoresheet.

On the cusp of half time, Matty Smith added another two points for the Warriors from a penalty, to give his side a 14-20 lead at the break.

Three minutes after the restart, Farrell got his second of the afternoon before Joe Burgess went over.

With 12 minutes of play left, Smith added another point for Wigan from a drop-goal to round off a memorable afternoon.
