LDRL festival at DW on Friday

  • LDRL festival to take place on the DW Stadium on Friday ahead of Wigan v Catalans.
  • Wigan, St Helens and Warrington Foundations will have teams playing.
  • Fans can watch the festival as gates open at 6:15pm.

We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a Learning Disability Rugby League (LDRL) festival on the DW Stadium pitch ahead of Wigan Warriors’ first team game against Catalans Dragons on Friday (7:45pm K.O.).

The LDRL game has progressed greatly and now has a headline offer that offers memorable opportunities for its participants.

Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Warrington Wolves Foundations will have two teams playing at the DW Stadium to take part in a Learning Disability Super League festival as a curtain raiser for the first team game against Catalans Dragons. Fans planning to attend the DW on Friday night can watch the festival, as the gates open for entry at 6:15pm.

The LDRL is a variant of the game developed to ensure people with a learning disability can access and enjoy playing the game of Rugby League. This accessible offer is open to any individuals who have a learning disability or an associated condition.

The emphasis in LDRL is on enjoyment, it is generally non-competitive and completely inclusive. The activities are delivered with a view to developing the participants skills and confidence while providing new challenges and opportunities.

This format was born out of Physical Disability Rugby League in 2018. It was created to meet the diverse requirements of Rugby League players with disabilities, ensuring no individual is excluded from accessing Rugby League and to provide a team-sport experience to those who previously would not have had such an opportunity.

Three festivals and a LDRL finals day take place each year, with Wigan playing in all the festivals this year. The previous event saw the Warriors host at Wigan St Cuthberts ARLFC, with St Helens, Warrington and Widnes all involved.
