Match preview: Hull KR

Everything you need to know ahead of Wigan Warriors’ Betfred Super League Round 19 clash with Hull Kingston Rovers.

Adrian Lam’s men will travel over to humberside to face off against the Robins on Friday night, their first trip to Hull College Craven Park since 2019..

Campaign so far

The Cherry and Whites head into the fixture with five wins from their previous six in the competition. As it stands, Wigan sit fourth, having won 12 of their 18 games so far this season.

The visitors have played just 13 games, winning seven, with COVID issues causing havoc with Rovers’ fixtures during June and July. They got the better of Wigan when the two met at the DW Stadium on 18th June.

Tommy Leuluai remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained against Leigh in Round 17.

Coach quotes

Speaking to the media ahead of the fixture on Tuesday afternoon, Lam began by discussing Friday’s opposition.

“It’s going to be a tough game going away to Hull KR. “They have been one of the in-form teams in the league this year, so we are looking forward to it.”

Rovers have been praised at times this season for their attacking and at times unpredictable approach to games.

On combating this Lam said: “It’s tough to coach against it, but if we can work our defence to get on the front foot and stop a lot of their offloads it’ll go a long way to help us build a good base.

“We played them earlier this season with a very different side and they got the better of us. We’re looking forward to going there with more of a balanced side on Friday.”
