Wigan Warriors Captain Liam Farrell praised the ‘outstanding’ travelling support after his last gasp hat-trick try clinched a 26-22 golden point win over Hull KR at the Sewell Group Craven Park.

After scoring twice in the first half, Farrell completed his hat-trick in the dying seconds of additional time to earn Wigan a hard-fought two points.

Speaking on the victory, Farrell said: “We came here tonight under the intention that it was going to be a real physical game and that is what we got. Parts of the game were pretty good, but parts weren’t too good which we need to fix up.

“At the end of the day it is a last minute win and you have to enjoy that. Hull KR are third in the league so to beat them here is really pleasing.”

Reflecting on his hat-trick, and man of the match performance, Farrell said: “I haven’t had too many hat-tricks in my career, so I take them when they come.”

Farrell added: “I’m grateful for getting on the end of some really good play from Liam [Marshall] to set them up but also to Harry [Smith] and Bevan [French] for their play as well.”

Wigan were backed by a vocal following in East Yorkshire, and Farrell was full of praise for the support post-match: “To come to Hull KR on a Thursday night is outstanding from the fans – especially after being on a coach for three hours like us.

“To turn up in numbers, and bring the voices they had, is outstanding – we are really pleased they did.”

Next up the Warriors head to St James’ Park for Magic Weekend as they take on Catalans Dragons, and Farrell is excited to for the clash in Newcastle: “Magic is one of my favourite fixtures, and I’m looking forward to what will be another tough and intense game against Catalans.”
