150 year ‘mishmash’ revealed

Wigan Warriors are proud to unveil a piece of ‘mishmash’ artwork encapsulating 150 years of the Club in one image.

The artwork was revealed at the Fan Village at Robin Park Arena ahead of Wigan’s game against Toulouse Olympique on Friday.

Commissioned by the Club in what is our 150th anniversary year, the piece has been created by illustrator Alex Bennett, who has previously designed a series of football mishmash posters for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and West Ham United.

The piece has been put together with the inclusion of players, coaching staff, boardroom and office staff, fans, celebrity fans, recognisable faces, famous tries, tackles and kicks, silverware, awards, notable banners, scoreboards, signs and flags, as well as celebrations, injuries and confrontation.

Warriors Executive Director, Kris Radlinski, said: “The mishmash project has been a wonderful thing to be involved in. We have tried to capture many moments and characters from our 150 years from people who have had an influence on and off the field.

“This artwork will be displayed in our training facility as a constant reminder of everything that has gone before. We look forward to sharing with our fans who have been included in the process, highlighting memories and moments from the past.

“I would like to pay tribute to Alastair Hancock, our Head of Communication, who has owned the project from the start and worked incredibly hard with Alex to produce something so wonderful.”

On his work, artist Alex, said: “I would just like to thank Alastair, Kris and everyone at the Club for giving me this amazing opportunity and for trusting me in depicting this great Club’s history.

“Alastair contacted me in November 2021. After agreeing to the project, I completed it on 14th June. I estimate I spent 900-1000 hours working on it.

“It is a team effort to create something like this. That’s what I feel makes the process so enjoyable for myself and hopefully the effort in creating this is noticeable when you see the finished work.”
