  • Born in Wigan.
  • Started playing Rugby League when he was five-year-old at St. Judes ARLFC and stayed there for 11 years.
  • Signed for Wigan in 2014 and played two years in the Scholarship system.
  • Went on to play three years in the Academy, playing in two Grand Final wins.
  • Played for England Academy in 2018 and was part of the team that beat the Australian Schoolboys 2-0 in a two-game series.
  • Joint top try scorer in the 2019 Academy team – scoring 19 tries in as many games.
  • Made his professional debut for the Club in 2020 in a much-changed Wigan side against St Helens in September, going down 0-42.
  • McDonnell made a further 2 appearances for the Club in 2021 including their final home fixture against Catalans Dragons where he scored his first professional try for the Club.
  • That solo try earned him Try of the Year award in 2021 as voted for by the Wigan Warriors fans.
  • During the 2022 season whilst at Wigan, McDonnell has been on loan at Leigh Centurions playing successfully for the Championship side.
