Wigan Warriors players promote Community Day by visiting their former community clubs and hundreds of local players.
Sean O’Loughlin, Chris Hankinson, Liam Marshall, Liam Farrell, Tom Davies and Dan Sarginson amongst the players who got involved on Thursday night.
- In celebration of #ShowYourColours Day, the Club is hosting a showcase training session at 5:45pm on Friday at the Robin Park Arena, which enables community players to buy a matchday £5 voucher to watch Wigan take on Hull KR.
A selection of Wigan Warriors stars visited their former clubs in the local community this week ahead of Show Your Colours day at the DW Stadium against Hull KR.
Captain Sean O’Loughlin led the community celebration with a visit to Wigan Bulldogs ARLFC on Thursday night, while Wille Isa and Liam Byrne spent the evening with Westhoughton Lions ARLFC and signed shirts for their admiring fans.
Chris Hankinson returned to his former club, Golborne Parkside ARLFC, with youngster Joe Shorrocks, and reminiscence about the great experiences he had there.
Laurie Marsden from Golborne said: “The Wigan lads have been fantastic; Chris shared stores of his time here and its amazing that the Club are so committed to supporting the community game.”
Liam Marshall and Liam Farrell returned to their community club in Wigan St Patricks ARLFC, as did Tom Davies at Shevington Sharks ARLFC. The players spoke to youngsters about their time there and looked forward to seeing more of them follow in their footsteps.
Craig Mullen took Dan Sarginson to visit Wigan St Cuthberts ARLFC and was delighted to see the development and progression of the club since he was last there.
Under-19s Academy players and Leigh locals, Max Roberts and Cian Tyrer, made the short trip to Leigh East and promoted the matchday against Hull KR.
Leigh East representative, Sam Quigly, paid a big thanks to the Club: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to the players for coming down to see us. The kids were made up with the opportunity and are attending the game on Friday.”
Wigan Marketing and Community Director, Martin McLoughlin, said: “We’ve got a proud tradition of having a strong community game in Wigan. We are looking to do more than ever to strengthen the relationship with our community and utilise our players as ambassadors for the clubs that work so hard to grow the sport.”
Warriors Rugby Development and Recruitment Officer, Danny Fullerton, added: “The clubs have been so easy to work with; we have a fantastic network of clubs and will always do our best to help them to grow and make the game strong and healthy.
“The photos of the Wigan players in community club shirts is great to see and shows the connection we want to have with them.”
Any community players wishing to take up the offer of Community Day, which enables you to buy a matchday £5 entry voucher to watch Wigan Warriors take on Hull KR in the Betfred Super League on Friday can turn up to the showcase training session at 5:45pm at the Robin Park Arena.
