Tom Davies looks back on Wigan Warriors’ 30-20 defeat to Wakefield Trinity.
Winger says conceding three tries in the last four minutes of the first half was ‘unacceptable.’
- Davies: “We need to back ourselves.”
Tom Davies says there were no excuses after Wigan’s 30-20 defeat to Wakefield.
The winger stated his side’s main aim was to start the match well but admitted the three tries Wigan conceded in the last four minutes of the first half was ‘unacceptable’.
“It turned the game over and we were left trying to catch the game up.
“We knew we were still in it if we completed our sets but then they scored from the restart. We can’t leave it until the final minutes to play. We need to back ourselves and our spine; we have some world class players and we proved we can get some points.
“We knew Wakefield had a big pack, that is what they are all about, but tonight we came up short.”
The 22-year-old commented on Joe Shorrocks, who made his senior debut for the club on Friday night.
He said: “I thought he did well, and he should be proud, any occasion where you make your debut is a great one. It is something you work on for your whole career and you want that first team debut.”
Looking forward, Davies states his side must make sure they are in ‘fighting form’ heading into the Good Friday Derby.
“It’s one of the biggest games of the year, any game against Saints is massive but especially Good Friday.
“It is going to be a tough week of high intensity training, all the lads will be working hard to get the win.”
