Wigan U19s put on an excellent display at the Robin Park Arena as they beat Newcastle Thunder U19s 72-0.

Wigan’s first try came after four minutes of play, with Ben Holcroft on the wing cutting inside and pushing himself over to make it 4-0.
Holcroft turned provider for the second the try, passing the ball back inside to Hanley to easily go over. With Sam Halsall successfully converting the second try, Wigan led 10-0 after 13 minutes.

The Warriors extended that lead even further, this time the try coming from the left, with Reece Hamlett adding his name to the scoresheet in the 20th minute to make it 14-0. The first half try-fest continued, as Brad O’Neil added two in quick succession in the 26th and 31st minute.

Holcroft also grabbed himself a second before the break, has he outpaced a number of Newcastle players to give Shane Eccles side a comfortable 32-0 lead at half time. It was more of the same after the break, as James McDonnell came off the bench to go over after only one minute of the second half. With Halsall kicking his fifth conversion on the day, Wigan’s lead was extended to 38 points.

Newcastle did start to test the Warriors, but a strong defensive showing cut out any threat from the visitors.

After a short period defending, Wigan broke down the Newcastle defence once again, this time it was Sam Halsall getting his first try of the afternoon to make the score 44-0 after 51 minutes.

It wasn’t long before Eccles’ side made it 50-0, as Wigan made the most of a Newcastle error, with Roden getting the try.

Corey Hall became the Warriors eighth different try scorer of the afternoon, as he went over twice, scoring in the 60th and the 68th minute to make Thunder’s day even worse. Wigan capped off a dominant performance with Hanley and McDonnell getting their second tries of the day in the 75th and the 79th minute, to make the final score 72-0. A superb performance from Wigan U19s at Robin Park Arena makes it four wins out of four this season.
