Wigan Warriors are delighted to announce a new strategic partnership between Wigan & Leigh College and the club’s Education Academy. The partnership will officially align a shared focus of delivering high quality education for the Sport, Coaching and Leisure sectors.
Wigan Warriors Academy has evolved significantly since its inception in 2011 and delivers a range of programmes to over 150 learners each academic year. The College partnership commenced in September 2018 and forms part of the clubs 2018 - 2021 strategy and its preparations for the imminent move to the Robin Park Arena in mid 2019.
The Robin Park Arena will feature a new Education Centre that provides learning opportunities for a range of different groups. In partnership with Wigan & Leigh College the plan is to raise the status of vocational & sporting education by shared development initiatives, aligning quality standards and ensuring a relevant and responsive curriculum is designed that meets the needs of the local community. The partnership will see a range of new programmes being delivered from Level 1 to Higher Education opportunities.
Wayne Joyce, Director responsible for the Academy and Arena Project commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Wigan & Leigh College and the benefits that it will bring to our Education Academy and its offer for the local community”
“We actually started discussions with the College back in 2016 in line with the collaborative redevelopment talks for the Robin Park Arena. It’s taken time to implement but we are already seeing the benefits of being aligned to one of the main high-quality education providers in the town.”
“We will work very closely with the College to ensure a continued focus on maintaining the quality of services we offer to both our learners and community who are at the centre of everything we do.”
Anna Dawe, Wigan & Leigh College Principal, said: “We are delighted to have developed this partnership with Wigan Warriors to ensure that young people in the borough are able to access quality education within sport & coaching that gives them the qualifications and experiences to access careers within this sector.”
The partnership will see Wigan Warriors learners being part of a much wider supporting network through Wigan & Leigh College and gaining access to both club and College facilities, whilst learners based at the College will receive a range of exclusive benefits and opportunities available through Wigan Warriors.
Kris Radlinksi, Executive Director, Wigan Warriors commented: “It’s great to be working in partnership with one of the leading Colleges in the town and providing some outstanding learning opportunities for people young and old. Combined with the move to Robin Park Arena, 2019 is a really exciting time for us and working with the right partners will make sure we are top of the game in everything we do”
