Eccles delighted with win

  • Wigan U19s Head Coach Shane Eccles reflects on his side’s 54-14 victory over Huddersfield Giants U19s.

  • Eccles is pleased his team are achieving their goals but feels there is more to work on.

  • Eccles: “It was good to see things put into practice.”

Wigan Warriors Under-19s Head Coach Shane Eccles was pleased by the showing of his side in the 54-14 win over Huddersfield Giants Under-19s at the weekend.

One factor of the victory that made Eccles happy was the variety of try scorers the Warriors had on Saturday afternoon at Robin Park Arena.

Wigan ran in a total of nine tries with eight different players touching down to contribute their second victory of 2019.

Eccles said: “During the week we work on attack and on different structures. It is good to see that put into practice and the different scorers shows we are using different moves.”

Something Eccles plans to work on during the week ahead of Saturday’s trip to Warrington Wolves is tightening the defence even more.

“We let them get into our half and get points on the board so that is something we will focus on as we want to be one of the teams conceding the least, but we did set some goals during the week and it was good to see us do that.”
