The npower Wigan Warriors Community Blitz returns for its second year today, as 120 players, officials and staff volunteer 15 hours of their time to spread some community spirit in time for Christmas.
The Club’s Official Energy partner, npower, have ramped up their support for the Community Blitz, having already been a driving force behind last season’s pilot project when they provided Warriors’ transport to each location.
In addition to funding this year’s fleet of vans, npower will also provide a support squad of 20 npower staff who have volunteered to drive the Wigan teams to their chosen destination and to assist them on each project.
In its second year, the npower Wigan Warriors Community Blitz sees all the Club’s teams and staff members volunteer their time at several community projects in the local area.
In total, the Warriors will be tackling 14 separate projects that include hospital and school visits, community rugby initiatives, working at a local sheltered accommodation and a Warriors car wash for emergency service vehicles in the town.
Wigan Warriors Foundation Manager, Mike Wearden: “Community work is at the heart of what we do as an organisation and the npower Wigan Warriors Community Blitz is a day in which we have the opportunity to showcase some of the work we that we do on our own doorstep throughout the year. The projects we will be working on today are in the most deprived areas in our town. In Wigan there are areas that are in the top 5% of deprivation in the country, and we’re hoping to bring some Christmas cheer across the community and put some smiles on some people’s faces. I’d like to thank all our of players, across our teams, for their time later today, Kris Radlinski and Adrian Lam for their buy-in and npower for their incredible support once again.
Wigan Warriors Executive Director, Kris Radlinski: “We are acutely aware of our responsibilities as the town’s rugby team that we have a obligation to give back to our community, and for us, the npower Wigan Warriors Community Blitz is something that we are very proud to be rolling out once again. Christmas is traditionally a time where people rally around each other, so to our club partner npower, all of our teams, our Head Coach Adrian Lam and all the Wigan Warriors staff rolling their sleeves up to help in some very important community projects is something that is a great source of pride for us as an organisation.”

We were blown away by the scale of last season’s Community Blitz and were keen to increase our involvement in the incredible community initiative that Wigan Warriors have created.
“There is such a powerful connection between the club and the town and the region. The local community provides a huge source of energy behind the team and it’s a privilege to be able to contribute in some small way as the club puts their energy behind these deserving projects, that benefit so many people.”
