  • Gildart & Williams feature in England’s win over New Zealand

  • Tom Davies scores in England Knights loss vs Kumuls

  • Escare & Navarrete perform in victory over Ireland

George Williams and Oliver Gildart featured in England’s second test victory over New Zealand at Anfield in another successful international weekend for the majority of Wigan players in action.

England put together an excellent performance against New Zealand in Liverpool winning 20-14 thanks to a Tommy Makinson hat-trick. The victory means that England head into the third test at Elland Road on 11th November as series winners.

George Williams played a crucial role in Makinson’s first try of the afternoon, playing a creative looping pass out to the left to find the St Helens player in space to go over in the corner. Take a look at the try below.

Elsewhere this weekend there were two other Wigan players in England action, with Tom Davies and Sam Powell featuring in the England Knights second tour match vs PNG.

Despite an excellent start in Port Moresby, with the Knights leading 6-18 at the half-hour mark, the Kumuls found momentum in the second-half to win 30-22.

However, Warriors winger Tom Davies will come away from the tour of Papua New Guinea with two tries in two games as he crossed the whitewash in the first-half to round off a successful trip for the 21-year-old.

But it wasn’t just Wigan’s England players in action over the weekend, as Ireland took on France in a crucial European Championship game in Dublin.

Wiganers Liam Byrne, Dec O’Donnell and Jack Higginson lined up for Ireland, while Grand Final winners Romain Navarrete and Morgan Escaré featured in the French squad.

It was the travelling side who came out on top, winning 10-24. The win secures France a place at the 2021 World Cup with one automatic spot left up for grabs between Ireland and Wales.
