  • Wigan Head Coach picks up award for the first time

  • Collects award after guiding the Warriors to fifth Grand Final in seven seasons

  • His Wigan side face Warrington in the Grand Final this Saturday

Wigan Head Coach Shaun Wane has been named the 2018 Betfred Super League Coach of the Year at the Man of Steel Awards

It is the first time that Wane has received the award after seven seasons in charge of the Warriors, guiding them to five Grand Finals during his time in charge.

This season, Wane’s Wigan side won every game in the Super 8s stage of the competition, something which no side had ever managed to achieve.

Speaking at the awards evening, Wane said, “I think the last award I won was in 1987 for man of the match so I’ve not won many, but I’m honoured.”

He continued, “I feel like I won this on behalf of my staff, I’ve got great staff at the Warriors and they’ve all done their bit. To win this near to my last game is very special, I just hope we can do the right thing and get the win on Saturday.”
