  • Amanda Wilkinson looks ahead to Wigan Women v Leeds Women

  • Women take on Leeds at Robin Park Arena on Sunday 29th April, 1pm kick-off

  • Wilkinson says her team are going from strength to strength

Speaking ahead of their second game of the season, Wigan Warriors Women’s Team Head Coach, Amanda Wilkinson, says she is expecting a great game against Leeds.

The Warriors Women, playing in their first ever game, ran in 11 tries to see off Featherstone last time out. Leeds, also new to the competition, beat last year’s champions Bradford Bulls on the same weekend.

“The coaching staff and I were more than happy with the performance in our opening game, but it’s still early days for us as a team.” Wilkinson said.

“Leeds are a very physical and well organised side, but I feel that we have prepared well this week. As with all Wigan against Leeds fixtures, I’m expecting a great game between two sides playing with great pride and passion.”

The team used last week’s free weekend to improve their fitness and Wilkinson says they are continuing to improve each week.

“Each session that passes, the girls and staff are getting to know each other more. As the season progresses, I’m sure the team will go from strength to strength, both on and off the field.

“There was a real buzz in training following our first game which is great as it shows that the girls enjoyed that winning feeling and want to improve themselves so that the winning feeling continues.

“We have worked the girls hard since Featherstone, especially through their ‘bye week’ in order for us to stay focused and keep momentum going ready for our next battle.”

The Warriors pulled in a crowd of almost 400 against Featherstone, something which Wilkinson is looking to improve on this weekend: “I would say to anyone who is wondering or considering coming to watch the Women this weekend, don’t keep wondering what it’s like, just get yourselves down to Robin Park! This is going to be an entertaining game with both teams starting their seasons well so it’s certainly not one to miss.”

Wigan Warriors Women host Leeds Rhinos Women at Robin Park Arena on Sunday 29 April, 1pm kick-off. Admission is free for 2018 Season Ticket Holders, £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
