Willie Isa praises Warriors defensive effort after shutting out Castleford
Wigan keep Castleford scoreless in second half to take the win
- Warriors now four games unbeaten
Willie Isa lauded Wigan’s defensive effort after the Warriors stopped a dangerous Castleford side from scoring in the second half to beat the Tigers 28-12 in the Betfred Super League.
The Cherry and Whites made it three wins in a row with a tough performance to see off Castleford 28-12.
Speaking after the game, Isa said that “it’s good to get the win first of all. It was scratchy from both teams with a few dropped balls here and there.
“They started the first half better than us and finished off a bit better, but in patches we were good.
“I’ll hold my hand up because I missed a tackle for their try and that’s not me but that’s the way it goes but I’ll work on it next week.
“It was great to keep them scoreless in that second half though. As a team we did well defensively, especially in the second half, and that was more like us.
The win, Wigan’s fourth in as many games, means they stay within two points of St Helens with a game in hand too.
“We’re going alright,” Isa said.
“We’re steady along through the season and as long as we’ve got momentum going for us I think we can improve as a team and as individuals which is the most important thing.”
Isa, on a good run of form himself, earned praise from Shaun Wane in his press conference.
“I try my best every week and I do it for my team mates and the club.” He continued.
“As long as I try my best week in week out for my team mates and the coaches. Hopefully they’ll realise what I’m doing for them.
“I don’t try and grab the headlines, that’s not my kind of thing. I just go along with my job and see how it goes.”
The win sealed a great week for the second rower after having signed a three-year contract on Wednesday.
Isa said: “I’m grateful for the opportunity. Hopefully I can continue on to do better things, I think I’ve got a lot of improvement as a player to give to the team.
“For me, I’m a bit of a boring guy. I don’t really celebrate that kind of stuff (a new contract), I just keep working hard.”
