Shaun Wane says it doesn’t get much bigger than the Good Friday Derby.

Wigan make the short journey over Billinge Hill to take on St Helens tomorrow afternoon and the Warriors boss says he will make sure his players are ready and raring to go.

“It doesn’t get much bigger, we prepare for this like we’re going to Wembley.” Wane said.

“All of the players are on the ball and they all know it’s a massive game for all of the Wigan lads in the squad.”

The teams occupy the top two spots in Super League but Wane says that won’t change this game.

“It can’t add any more spice to a Wigan and Saints Derby! It doesn’t matter where we are in the league, it’s Wigan v Saints at Saints. We’re desperate to get a result, just as they will be.

“They’re going outstandingly well but we’re going ok too. The best team will win and I just hope it’s us.”

Wigan won the 2017 Good Friday Derby at the DW Stadium

The Wigan boss has never tasted defeat on Good Friday whilst in charge, a record he says that run will have no influence this week.

“In those games we’ve wanted it more. It’s simple Rugby League, if you want it more, if you run harder, whack people harder then you’ll win.

“That will have no bearing on this game though, they’ll be more motivated but so are we to get another one. I’ve spoke to the players about that.”

Over 4,000 Wiganers will pack out the away end and Wane says he wants to get another win for them

“I know what it means to all of them. It’s a great feeling to beat them in their backyard but we need to be a lot better this week. This game is very intense.”

Wane said that Morgan Escaré was omitted from the squad owing to a virus.
