The Warriors Under-19s ran in nine tries in a convincing win over City of Hull Academy at Bishop Burton College.
James Worthington started at centre with Jake Sculthorpe trading places and moving to the bench. Sammy Kibula came in at prop with Nathan Wilde also in as a substitute, the pair taking the places of Ethan Havard and Amir Borouh.
Wigan were soon on the scoreboard without even having had a set of six! Morgan Smithies charged Franck Thibault’s kick down and raced through to collect and score to give the Warriors an early advantage.
Hull were level just eight minutes later when Cameron Scott ran through and from the play-the-ball the went wide to Josh Atkinson who converted in the corner, 4-4.
The Warriors were back in front on the 20-minute mark as James Worthington wriggled free to go over, Joe Shorrocks’ goal making it 10-4 to the visitors.
An error from the restart by Wigan invited Hull onto their line and after Tom Jubb had gone close Will Oakes soon touched down out wide. Oakes converted his own try and the game was level at 10-10.
Two tries either side of the half-hour mark from stand-off Callum Green and centre James Barran along with two conversions from Smith put Wigan in control. The Warriors could have had more as the piled pressure on the Hull line but the hosts held on, Wigan 22-10 at half-time.
Darrell Goulding’s side picked up where they left off as quick-fire tries from Reece Hamlett and Joe Brown saw them stretch the lead, 30-10 the advantage just ten minutes into the second half.
The Warriors stayed on the front foot and continued to blitz Hull as Oliver Partington crashed over in the 55th minute and Joe Brown helped himself to a second just moments later to put the game beyond doubt.
Cameron Scott scored a consolation try for Hull on the 71st minute but Wigan had the final say as Partington scored his second, Wigan’s ninth, to complete the scoring. Harry Smith converted, his fifth of the afternoon, meaning it finish City of Hull Academy 14-48 Wigan.
