George Williams says he is aiming to be more consistent in 2018
Wigan stand-off wants team to be back at Old Trafford
- Says disappointment of 2017 has made him hungrier
George Williams says he wants to be more consistent in 2018 as the Warriors look to return to winning ways.
The Warriors head into the new season desperate to make amends for 2017 as they try to return to Old Trafford after missing out on the top four last season.
Williams spent time at the World Cup with England last year and says he’s looking forward to heading back to Australia again soon.
“It was the best seven and a half weeks of my life (the World Cup).” He said.
“I made mates for life and it was a great experience. The lack of game time has made me even more eager to make more of a difference on the field.
“I was obviously disappointed not to play as much as I would have liked but I can’t say a bad word about the team or the tournament.
“I have the chance to go back to Australia (with Wigan) and hopefully put that frustration of lack of game time and the World Cup Final defeat to bed by winning the two games. It is clear in training that everybody wants to be on the plane and the excitement to go there and have that experience is massive for a lot of players and especially for me too.”
Williams says having reflected on 2017 he believes he was below par, something he wants to put right this time out.
“I underperformed last year and my aim for this season is to be consistent.” He said.
“I’ve spoken about it with Waney (Shaun Wane) and I think it’s not good to be having one game on and one game off, it’s not where I want to be. I’m narrowing my focus down to get that consistency in my performances and I’m looking to contribute more to the team and hopefully with that comes success.
“We were nowhere near our best last year and it was the first time I have not been involved in the Grand Final, but that has made me hungrier to put that right this year and I’m excited for it to start!”
