Joe Brown hoping Wigan can conquer London
Wigan XIII to face London Skolars in 2018 Capital Challenge at the Honorable Artillery Company tomorrow
- Strong Wigan side to feature at the HAC as Wigan look to regain Capital Challenge trophy
Academy player Joe Brown says the Warriors will head to London looking to learn from last year’s experience when they face London Skolars again in the Capital Challenge.
A Wigan XIII will take part in the game for fifth consecutive year having lost for the first time last season.
The game takes place at the Honorable Artillery Company in the very heart of London- one of the most unique sporting locations in the country.
The HAC is probably the most valuable piece of land that any rugby is played anywhere in the world and is a must for any rugby league aficionado who wants to tick off iconic venues.
Brown played in the game last season and was yesterday named in the squad for this season’s match.
“It’s been a long, hard pre-season so we’re all ready to get down there now and play the game.” He said.
“It’s always good to get a couple of pre-season friendlies in there, we’re all just looking forward to it now.
“I’d never really experienced anything like that (The HAC) before, it was a bit surreal as it’s not really a Rugby League background down there. It was good to see how many people came out to support the game though and hopefully they can do the same this year.”
Brown scored twice in last year’s game as London took a narrow 26-22 win, he’s hopeful that tomorrow has a different outcome.
“I think we’re sending a stronger team down this year and hopefully we can get the win.
“London are a big physical side which we found out last year. We learnt a lot from that game and we’ll be smarter for the experience this year.”
