Double Headers Announced

  • Four NRL double headers announced for 2018

  • Warriors to take part in double header at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 17th February

  • Wigan to face Souths and Hull take on St George-Illawarra on historic night in Sydney

Double headers are top of the order in 2018 with the NRL announcing four back-to-back events across Australia and New Zealand next year.

With Wigan set to host the first ever International Double Header between Super League and NRL sides at ANZ stadium on Saturday 17th February, officials Down Under have followed suit with four double headers forming part of the 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership.

South Sydney Rabbitohs, Wigan’s opponents at ANZ Stadium, feature in two of the double headers. They begin proceedings against New Zealand Warriors at the new Perth Stadium on Saturday 10th March before Canterbury Bulldogs take on newly crowned champions Melbourne Storm.

Souths then host Manly Sea Eagles before Parramatta Eels take on Cronulla Sharks at ANZ Stadium in Round Three on Saturday 24th March.

Both NRL Grand Finalists take to the stage in Auckland on Saturday 17th April when Melbourne face Wests Tigers and the Cowboys meet the Warriors.

The final double header sees Melbourne and Gold Coast go toe to toe before Manly meet Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday 12th May.

Wigan Warriors Commercial Manager, Dan Burton, said: “Following the recent announcement of our historic New South Wales tour, it is great to see more Double Header fixtures will be taking place through the 2018 season. It is fantastic to see the Rugby League community coming together as the atmosphere created at blockbuster events such as these provide a wonderful showpiece for the game, the clubs involved and their fans.

“For Wigan, the chance to head to Wollongong and Sydney to create history for the game and continue to develop our brand on the global stage is an incredible opportunity and one we are already seeing a lot of benefits from. We are tremendously excited and can’t wait to get there in February along with Hull FC and our respective fans for what I am sure will be a fantastic occasion.”

Wigan head to ANZ Stadium in 2018 when they take on South Sydney Rabbitohs in an international double header with Hull FC also set to face St George Illawarra Dragons.
