O’Loughlin Honoured

  • Sean O’Loughlin named in 2017 Betfred Super League Dream Team

  • Wigan skipper named in dream team for sixth time

  • O’Loughlin becomes only the fourth player to achieve the feat

Sean O’Loughlin says he is honoured to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the games’ greatest players after making the Super League Dream Team for the sixth time.

The Wigan Skipper became only the fourth player in Super League history to be named in the Dream Team six times and follows in the footsteps of Jamie Peacock (11), Andy Farrell (7) and Keiron Cunningham (7).

Speaking to Wigan TV at the launch of the fictitious team, he said: “It’s always nice to get that acknowledgement especially when you look at the players who are up there. It’s nice to get that pat on the back.

“These awards don’t substitute winning cups and things like that but when you look back and look at some of the names there (Peacock, Farrell and Cunningham), to be mentioned in the same sentence as those players it’s a real nice place to be.”

The Wigan captain missed the Warriors’ last two games and says the players are unhappy with how they finished the campaign.

“Everyone is really disappointed,” he said.

“We’ll look back on the year and we’ve been to a Challenge Cup Final and just come up short there, we got our hands on the World Club trophy which was a huge achievement for the Club and something that everybody really enjoyed being a part of but that seems a long way away when you look at the way we’ve finished the season and how we faded.

“That disappointment is there because we had it in our hands and we didn’t finish the season how we wanted to.

“It’ll be a long pre-season for us now, we’ll do a lot of work and look to wrong those rights next year.”
