Sean O’Loughlin speaks as Warriors prepare to face Hull
Skipper says Wigan need to respond after back to back defeats
- Wigan face Hull at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday
Wigan captain Sean O’Loughlin says the Warriors know that they need to respond as they prepare to face Hull on Saturday.
Wigan picked up just one win and a draw from their five games during the month of May including Monday’s loss to Wakefield, a game which they led 20-0 after just 20 minutes.
After an up and down month the skipper says the team know that they need to work hard to get back to where they want to be.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better start,” O’Loughlin said on Monday’s game.
“We had a lot of ball and scored some points so I don’t know whether that made us too comfortable but they got a swing of it in the last 20 minutes of the first-half and we didn’t respond to well to that.
“We came out in the second-half still confident that we could turn the game around and get back in control but we conceded some disappointing tries and it cost us.
“We lacked a bit of intensity, especially within our defence. There are a few things to put right and we need to make sure we do that.”
Wigan travel to the KCOM Stadium on Saturday for a crunch game with Hull FC that could bring them within one point of the Black and Whites in fifth.
The England captain told said: “We’re getting to that point in the season now were we have to start picking up wins so we need to respond against Hull.
“We drew against Warrington and lost narrowly against Saints but came away from those games thinking we’re not too far off but the Wakefield loss was a bit of a slap in the face for us.
“A lot of the lads are disappointed but it’s not a lack of commitment what has caused the losses. Even though it is another short turnaround, we will make sure we do enough in training this week to get over it and hopefully manage to get the win at Hull.”
