- Highly-rated youngster delighted to be back at Wigan
The Wigan Club today announce the signing of utility-back Liam Forsyth from Bath Rugby Union.
An exciting young winger, Liam Forsyth was a product of the Wigan Academy, having previously spent two seasons playing for the Wigan Under-19s team making 40 appearances and scoring 27 tries. Formerly of the Bold Miners Amateur Club, the 20-year-old has spent much of his junior career playing Rugby League. Forsyth has signed a two-year contract with the option of a third year, in the Club’s favour.
Chairman, Ian Lenagan, said:
“Liam makes a welcome return to the Wigan Club and to Rugby League after just one year away in Rugby Union. Primarily a winger, Liam will add competition for places in that position and look to try and force his way into the team in 2017. He is also an accomplished Centre and at 6ft 5in, 100kg and just 20 years of age, we believe he has vast potential.
“Liam is highly motivated to prove himself to the team and the Wigan fans.”
Head Coach, Shaun Wane, said:
“We had lengthy discussions with Liam and it was clear that he was extremely keen to return to Wigan. He is a talented young player who we know well and rate highly. He is a welcome addition to the squad for 2017.”
Liam Forsyth said:
“I already know many of the players and it’s been great to see so many Wigan Academy players make their debuts in this Grand Final winning season. I want to follow in their footsteps next season and will be doing everything possible to impress the coaching staff to show them that I am ready to play for the First Team. I’m really looking forward to the start of pre-season.”
