Warriors Ready for Richards Return

  • Shaun Wane and Sean O’Loughlin ready for Pat Richards’ return

  • Former Wigan favourite to make debut for Catalans Dragons next week

  • Wigan Warriors host Catalans Dragons on Friday 5th February

Wigan Warriors Head Coach, Shaun Wane, and Captain, Sean O’Loughlin say they know exactly what to expect when Pat Richards heads to the DW Stadium with Catalans next week.

Wigan Warriors host Catalans Dragons at the DW Stadium on Friday 5th February (8pm kick-off) in their first Super League game of 2016 with Pat Richards set to make his debut for the French club.

Richards, 33, left the Warriors following an eight-year stint at the Club and bowed out in the 2013 Grand Final win over Warrington. A firm fans’ favourite with the Cherry and White faithful, Richards enjoyed two successful years at NRL club, Wests Tigers, before moving to the Dragons.

Wane and O’Loughlin know Richards better than most having coached and played with the Irish international for much of his time at the Club.

“Paddy will be a great asset for Catalans,” said Wane. “Every time they score a try they’ll get six points!”

“He’s a great player and an even better man off the field. We remember him fondly at Wigan, his pictures are still up at our training ground at Orrell. We’re looking forward to seeing him and his family next week.”

Warriors Captain, Sean O’Loughlin, said: “It will be weird seeing Pat out there playing for an opposing team, I’m sure it will be an experience for him too, I’ll have to send him a map of the stadium so he knows where the away changing room is!

“He’s one of my best mates in the game, our kids are a similar age, our wives get along really well so we just naturally became great mates during his time at Wigan.

“It’ll be great to see him though and I’m sure he’ll get a great reception from the Wigan fans, we’ll treat him like any other opposing player though. He’s a great player and we’ll do our homework on him as we look to get off to a winning start.”

Tickets for this game start and 2016 Wigan Warriors Season Tickets are available from the DW Stadium Ticket Office, the Ticket Hotline – 0871 6633 552 and online HERE.
