Chairman on Clubcall Decision

Warriors Owner and Chairman Ian Lenagan selected Leeds Rhinos at the Clubcall event held at the DW Stadium on Sunday lunchtime.

Wigan had the option of both the Rhinos and Warrington but opted for Leeds as the lowest ranked team remaining in the competition.Ian told us,

"It was a unanimous decision made by myself, Shaun Wane and Kris Radlinski but we also seriously thought about Warrington at one stage, Leeds seem to be getting better and better and maybe Warrington were faltering a little bit, not helped by injuries but in the end Warrington and Wigan have been the two most consistent teams across the Super League regular season and it would be nice to see the two of us playing each other in the final.

Asked about the Rhinos who came from 5th last year to win the Grand Final and overturned Warrington at the HJ Stadium after the Wolves selected them at last year's Clubcall,Ian added,

"I think Leeds and last year is irrelevant as Brian McDermott said in his interview on Sky Sports News, this year is this year. Wigan have been very consistent and I feel we are coming back strongly now and this could be our year in terms of the Grand Final and that is the important factor from our point of view."

The Chairman was also asked about the Warriors Challenge Cup Semi-Final against Leeds earlier in the season which Wigan of course lost, he added,

"I don't think the Wigan team or fans need any encouragement to look to get to the Grand Final. So the fact it would be Leeds that we would beat in the Semi -Final, that Challenge Cup Semi-Final game is pretty irrelevant, it is only a tiny factor. We are so well motivated as a team to get to the Grand Final by winning the Semi-Final then it almost does not matter who it is we face on Friday."
