A class of rugby fanatic children were recently put through their paces by the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation coaches in a two and a half hour rugby Festival.
The children in year 4 at St. Mary and St. John's primary school in Wigan had bags of energy and got stuck in to the rugby based games that enhanced and tested their team and leadership skills.
Mr. Cox, Year 4 teacher and P.E Co-ordinator said: "I'm always teaching the children to be leaders and role models and the Warriors are a great example of that. We arranged for the coaches to come in so they could learn to play the warriors way."
Both the children and the staff benefitted from the festival, as the motivation generated from the session helpsto improve the spirit and atmosphere in the classroom.
Mr Cox added: "It's been a great reward for the children who have been working hard, especially as the rugby fanatics can see that although they don't always win they can still work together as a team and succeed.
After the activities each child was presented with a Wigan Warriors goody bag and a certificate to recognise their hard work.
Ethan, 9 said: "I've had loads of fun with my friends today and I'm really happy that we've had the chance to play the fun and exciting games. The coaches helped to teach us the skills we need to play rugby and also make our team work skills better."
Commenting on the success of the first festival Mr Cox said: "I hope to establish a link with the Community Foundation in order to continue to inspire the youth to be the future of Wigan Rugby."
Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Coach Dave Clark said: "The festival today has been a huge success. The children were extremely eager to join in the games and communicated well in their teams to successfully meet the session's aims and objectives set by both the coaches and their teacher Mr Cox. I hope we can build a relationship with the school and continue to teach both the children and the teachers how to play the warriors way."
