Wigan Warriors were defeated 15-21 by NRL Champions St George Illawarra Dragons at the DW Stadium on Sunday night in the PROBIZ World Club Challenge.

Speaking in the post match press conference Michael said,

"I am extremely proud of the players, I thought they worked extremely hard right to the death, it was just unfortunate that the scoreboard didn't end up our way. Full credit to St George, you can see the reason the team they are, they are a quality team who take their opportunities. Unfortunately for us we had a few opportunities and we didn't execute them to the fine detail. I am very proud of the players.

"I am disappointed but I was very pleased with the boys effort, they have worked extremely hard to get this opportunity and we just fell short at the end there. You could see the toughness of the game, there was a lot of expansive rugby played and it was just one of those games that didn't fall our way.

"I knew the game would be extremely tough, our players stood up and I think it showed that the two competitions are pretty close at the top end. We didn't take our opportunities when we needed to."

Wigan were without Stuart Fielden who missed out with a knee injury and both Sean O'Loughlin and Martin Gleeson were forced off through injury,

"It was quite a crazy week for us, we had Stuart Fielden possibly playing and then not after the last training session, Paul Prescott strained his hamstring through the middle of the week and played, Martin Gleeson wasn't probably playing until this morning. Full credit to our players, they were extremely professional."

On the night and occasion as a whole, Michael added,

"It's great to see Wigan back playing in this kind of arena, there is alot of history of the Club in these great games and hopefully we will get this type of opportunity again."
