2010 season: In stats
After concluding our rewind to the 2010 season on Wigan TV this week, Club Historian Keith Sutch provides all the key stats and facts from what was a memorable year for the Warriors.
General facts
- It was Michael Maguire’s first season in charge as Head Coach
- Sean O’Loughlin was the Club Captain
- Wigan’s first game was against North Wales Crusaders at the DW Stadium on 5th February (won 38-6)
- 29 players were used overall throughout the season
- Wigan played 34 matches overall in all competitions (27 league games)
- Pat Richards, Sam Tomkins and Joel Tomkins played in all 34 games across the year
- Wigan finished top of the league and won the League Leaders’ Shield (the first time the Club won the trophy)
- Warriors beat Leeds 6-26 at Headingley in the Play-Off Elimination Semi-Final to progress to the Grand Final
- Wigan won the Super League Grand Final trophy for the first time in 12 years after overcoming St Helens 22-10 at Old Trafford
- Tommy Leuluai won the Harry Sunderland Man of the Match Trophy
- At the Man of Steel Awards, Pat Richards won the Man of Steel and Michael Maguire won the Coach of the Year
- Pat Richards, Sam Tomkins, Joel Tomkins and Sean O’Loughlin were all named in the 2010 Super League Dream Team (the first time for all four)
- Across the season, Wigan scored 12 hat-tricks (three tries or more) – Pat Richards scored three, Karl Pryce and Darrell Goulding scored three, Sam Tomkins scored two and Amos Roberts scored one
- Wigan’s biggest victory in the season came against Salford (60-10) on 9th July at the DW Stadium

- Scored a Super League record on 26th February in a 58-0 win over Catalans Dragons – 38 points (five tries, nine goals) – those five tries equalled Wigan’s try scoring record for a single Super League game – Jason Robinson, Tony Smith and Josh Charnley are the others
- Equalled Andy Farrell’s 2001 Super League record of most points in a regular league season with 388
- Scored 434 points in the regular league season and Play-Offs – still a club record
- Scored 462 points in all competitions – still a club regular season record
- Scored three hat-tricks across the season (vs Catalans, Wakefield and Hull FC)
- Converted ten goals in a 60-10 victory against Salford on 9th February
Attendances
- The highest attendance at the DW Stadium was 22,701 on 16thJuly against Warrington (lost 16-23)
- The Grand Final attendance vs St Helens at Old Trafford was 71,526
