Maguire Reflects On Warrington Win

Wigan Warriors recorded a 12-20 win at Warrington on Wednesday night in the final pre-season fixture ahead of the new season which gets underway in 8 days.

Paul Deacon came off the bench for his Wigan debut and afterwards Head Coach Michael Maguire said,

"Deacs battled to get a start, he was really keen to play.

"He was going to lead the boys out against Saints at Christmas but with that game being called off (and a knock to his wrist) he hasn't played, so he was keen to take part.

"He's obviously going to be a big asset for us."

On the Warrington performance, Maguire added,

"Right across the board, as a team we're moving forward in the right direction.

"The players were competitive in everything they did.Our defence is something we've worked on during the pre-season and there were some good signs there. It was a pleasing effort from the boys.

"I think both teams will look at their performances and for areas to improve.

"I don't like to isolate too many individuals, but Sean O'Loughlin showed great effort, Amos Roberts played well and Sam Tomkins fought for everything."
