The 20-year-old engage Super League Young Player of the Year has played most of 2009 at stand-off but switches to the No 7 jersey alongside Danny McGuire of Leeds in a move his club chairman believes will make a telling difference.
“It’s Hallowe’en tomorrow and Sam is just the player to give us the magic we need to beat Australia,” said Lenagan.
“I’m sure he’s going to be a massive presence for England on Saturday. The national team needs a player with that special ability to break the line and with McGuire playing alongside him I have great expectations.
“Sam fully deserves his call up and I think Tony Smith has done exactly the right thing. Sam scored a hat-trick against Wales two weeks and was given a break last week when Richie Myler played against France.
“He’s going to be really up for this and with him in the team England are going to get a massive lift from some of the most passionate fans in the game.”
