Girls Take It In Their Stride

Girls from the Wigan area have been enjoying the facilities of the Co-Operative Community Stadium in the first two weeks of the Girls Rugby Centre.

The girls have been receiving expert coaching and enjoying the first class facilities at the Orrell First Team Training Ground.

The young rugby enthusiasts aged between 11 and 16 have been learning of drills and enjoying games delivered by the Wigan Warriors Community Staff and the coaches from Shevington Sharks, Westhoughton Lions, Chorley Pink Panthers and Leigh East.

Warriors Development Officer Amanda Wilkinson who was recently appointed Head Coach of England Women’s Students said,

"The centre is the ideal learning environment for girls interested in rugby league, it is a fun environment where girls can make new friends, while developing and learning new skills.

"Last year the centre saw over fifty girls enjoying the experience and over ten girls joining local girl’s rugby teams.

"The girls have showed great character and enthusiasm in the first couple of sessions and I’m really looking forward to meeting some more new faces."
