Higham backs Calders to Impress

Mark Calderwood was yesterday named to play for England in their huge World Cup Pool clash with Australia in Melbourne on Sunday.

Calders replaces the injured Lee Smith and joins Gareth Hock in the starting line-up

Hooker Mickey Higham who is also in the England 24 man squad down under has backed Calders to do a sterling job in the game. Higham said,

"I've always rated Mark Calderwood very highly indeed and I'm absolutely made up for him because he is a quality player and this is such a huge honour for him."

Higham admitted he was a little surprised that the winger had not been offered a deal by Wigan and instead has signed for Hull from 2009 onwards. Mickey added,

"I know he was disappointed by that. I think what happened has fired him up even more because he probably thinks he has a point to prove now.

"It can make players hungry again and Mark is a fiercely determined character.

"Sunday will be the biggest game of his career but he will not let England down."
