The day has been organised in conjunction with the Wigan Sport Development Unit, Wigan Warriors Wheelchair Rugby Club and the Wigan Warriors community team. The event is the culmination of a six week activity programme which has been running in the special schools across Wigan.
The day is designed to showcase the excellent work that the community team have been doing across Wigan over the past six weeks and allow young people and parents the opportunity to see what is on offer for young people with disabilities in Wigan.
The day will also showcase various disability focused activities that young people can have a go at and their will be opportunities for young people to attempt the Wigan Warriors kicking and passing challenges. Additionally throughout the day there will be face painting and craft activities for everyone who is attending.
Finally the highlight of the day will start around 12.00pm with the first ever wheelchair rugby match between members of the Wigan Warriors first team and the Wigan Wheelchair Rugby Club. The game will be played using the full competition rules and will last approximately 30 minutes with the winning team being presented with the inaugural Disability Rugby Challenge Cup.
