Calderwood joins Wigan from Leeds as the top try scorer in the engage Super League X while Higham links up for a second time with Head Coach Ian Millward after his international involvement with Great Britain.
Ian told the press he was delighted to get hold of two quality english players at the peak of their form. He said,
"What they bring is youth, they bring alot of experience. They have won Super League titles and they have some class in attack. They are people that excite crowds and they encourage people to come to the game and thay are good role models for youngsters. They are a fabulous addition. Mark was the leading try scorer last year and Mickey in the last test match last week was outstanding and instigated two tries. He will light up this stadium."
On signing for Wigan, Mark Calderwood said,
"I think this club is bigger than Leeds, since I have been here everyone has made me feel welcome. It was a wrench to leave Leeds and I enjoyed playing for them but I am at Wigan now and I am looking to playing my part in making them a great club again."
Mickey Higham made the move to Wigan via Bradford from St Helens and said,
"The last player to make the move from Saints to Wigan was Gary Connolly and he still gets booed today. I hope the fans understand why I have made the move, it is for total rugby reasons. I want to start every week and there is a time when you need to move on and challenge yourself and this is one opportunity I am looking forward to.I hope people don't see me as the player to fill Terry Newtons boots, I hope they expect to come see Mickey Higham playing."
