Warriors Sign Mick Higham

Wigan Warriors can confirm that Great Britain International Mickey Higham will be joining the club on a three year contract which will keep him at the JJB Stadium until the end of 2008 . We can also confirm that Terry Newton will be leaving the Warriors to join the Bradford Bulls.

Chairman Maurice Lindsay said,

"Terry Newton was approaching the end of his contract and had managed to obtain a four year deal with Bradford Bulls. We were prepared to release Terry on the understanding that we would be able to sign Mickey Higham who is highly rated by our Coach Ian Millward."

Lindsay added,

"Terry has been a terrific competitior for the Wigan club and we wish him well at Odsal. In Mickey Higham however, we have been able to sign a quality replacement. Mickey is a tremendous attacking player and he will be a great asset. He will hopefully help the club to win major honours."

Mickey Higham said,

"It looked at one stage as though I would be playing next season at Bradford but when the opportunity to join Wigan came up at the last minute I jumped at it. I am looking forward to working again with Ian Millward. I know that the club are hungry for success and have made some very good close season signings."

Mickey Higham has scored 35 tries in 116 appearances for St Helens and made his Great Britain debut in last year's Gillette Tri-Nations Series.Higham is currently away in Spain with the rest of the 24-strong Great Britain squad preparing for this year's clashes with Australia and New Zealand.
