Young Warriors Clinch Junior Academy Championship

Congratulations to Shaun Wane and his Under 18's side who wrapped up top spot in the Junior Academy Championship with still two games to go.

The success follows in the footsteps of the Senior Academy who have also finished top in the regular season with both sides looking to follow up great seasons by winning their respective Grand Finals.

The 18's were 34-8 winners over Salford City Reds on Thursday night.

Below are the full details of Thursday's win at Edge Hall Road.

Wigan Warriors 34 T: Brocklehurst, Rennison, Bradley, McIlorum, Kay, Coyle (T.), Jewitt G: Tomkins (S.) 2, Roper

Salford City Reds 8 T: Dean, Adamson

H.T. 20-4

The Warriors wrapped up the Junior Academy Championship the week after similarly homing in on the Senior title, putting seven tries past a stubborn Salford defence which dug deep to limit the damage they found themselves in after only forty minutes, when they trailed by sixteen clear points.

The second half was far more competitive, as the City Reds sought to add to their sole try – they did, with both Scott Dean and Luke Adamson crossing the home line.

But Wigan were always in command, their reshaped side finding a cohesion and sharpness which brought Mark Brocklehurst, Craig Rennison, Ross Bradley, Mike McIlorum, Darrell Kay, Thomas Coyle and Lee Jewitt a try apiece. Goals though, were in short supply, Coyle kicking two and his halfback partner Steven Roper landing one to complete a solid night’s work.
