Youngsters Pledge Future to the Warriors

Wigan are delighted to announce that youngsters Sean Gleeson, John Walker, Darrell Goulding and Mike McIlorum have all committed their futures to the club by signing new contracts. All four have put pen to paper and have agreed two year full-time deals.

Chairman Maurice Lindsay said,

"Over the years we have produced some good and sometimes great players from our home territory. Names like Gregory, Edwards, Lydon, Dermott, Clarke, Betts come to mind and many others. Local players who go onto greatness are what the club is all about. Our junior policy does not throw up great players every year but we are very pleased with current signs that players are coming through. Bryn Hargreaves is currently improving at a rate of knots and his friend and fellow prop Paul Prescott was going the same way until his unfortunate knee injury.

"The four players committing themselves this week will be joining an impressive and progressive group of youngsters who should help the club to do extremely well in coming years. We have always recruited from overseas to blend with our local talent and that is the way the club will continue."

Rugby Executive Dean Bell said,

"It is a great opportunity for these four players. All have a terrific attitude to improving their game and Sean, John, Darrell and Mike have all successfully come through our scholarship scheme. Under the management of Under 18s Coach Shaun Wane and Under 21's Coach Adrian Lam the players have developed rapidly and are all showing the potential to play Super League in the not too distant future."

Head Coach Ian Millward added,

"These are the next wave of talented Wigan youngsters to make their mark and hopefully be part of the clubs success in years to come. Dean Bell has identified these four players, three outside backs and a hooker with the potential and I have endorsed his decision. They will start training with the first team squad almost immediately."
