Behind The Sticks - Leigh v Wigan

Back to basics is the message after two horror weeks for the Warriors: -

Leigh Centurions v Wigan Warriors

Nobody needs to be reminded about the last two weeks, they are dark days in Wigan’s illustrious history. It’s got to be back to basics for this weeks match with Leigh Centurions.

Make no mistake about it Leigh are going to be relegated but what they would probably want most from now until the end of the season would be a win against their arch rivals the Wigan Warriors. As Ian has indicated all week this is the game Leigh came into Super League for. Ian’s ready but are the players?

Good news this week is that international star David Vaealiki is back from injury and will go straight into the game as will Liam Botham who was cup-tied at St Helens last week. But the Warriors have lost Kevin Brown and there remains a huge doubt over Terry Newton.

Local pride is at stake in this one and with plenty ex Wigan players in the Leigh side they will need no motivation for this one. What Wigan have to do is match the Centurions stride for stride. If Wigan do, their superior skill will eventually tell and they will grind out a win.

Like Ian has been preaching all week nobody cares how we win it’s a case of we must win! Enjoy the game.

Winning Margin – Wigan to beat Leigh by 6-10 points
