WIGAN WARRIORS PERFORMANCE AND EDUCATION ACADEMY.

WIGAN WARRIORS STRIVE TO BE AT THE FOREFRONT IN THE SPORT OF RUGBY LEAGUE AND OUR PERFORMANCE AND EDUCATION ACADEMY IS NO EXCEPTION TO THE RULE.

The Wigan Warriors Education Academy provides an exciting opportunity for both mainstream Sports Students and talented Rugby League players who wish to study towards a career in Sport.

Players - for students who are leaving school and looking to combine Rugby League with their college studies, our course options provide a perfect mix of qualifications with a performance training schedule, work experience and competitive games programme at one of the most famous Rugby League Clubs in the world.

Non-Players – some sports students have limited interest in playing rugby league, they attend our education academy to be part of a Professional Sports Club, undertake our courses and benefit from the very best Work Experience there is to offer.

Education - Our courses listed below are delivered by highly qualified and experienced lecturers, with guest speaker and master class sessions delivered throughout the academic year by club backroom staff. Topics covered link directly to industry careers, such as ‘Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Coaching, Sports & Player Analysis, Training Techniques and many more.

Our students attend the Warriors Education Academy with aspirations of progressing either into employment in the field of Sports Coaching, Fitness Instructing, Personal Training or onto Higher Education at University to become Teachers, Physiotherapists, Sports Psychologists, Performance Analysts etc.

Embedded within all programmes of study, our students will develop and enhance their English and Maths skills through specialist lessons. Consistent with the club ethos, the Academy prides its self on cultivating a winning attitude and enabling students to achieve the highest levels possible.

Further Education Courses (16-18 years old)

  • Level 2 SPORTS COACHING & GYM INSTRUCTOR
  • Level 3 BTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN SPORT (two A-Level equivalent)
  • Level 3 BTEC NATIONAL EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN SPORT (three A-Level equivalent)
  • Level 3 DIPLOMA IN COACHING SPORT AND FITNESS (for year 13 & 14 students)

University Higher Education – In Partnership with the University of South Wales

  • FOUNDATION DEGREE IN SPORTS COACHING and DEVELOPMENT
  • BSc DEGREE IN SPORTS COACHING, LEADERSHIP and DEVELOPMENT

Rugby Performance

WIGAN WARRIORS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

Students who love playing rugby league can form part of the BOYS or GIRLS squads. Both teams will take part in structured training sessions each day using the academy facilities and compete in competitive match fixtures every Wednesday. Both squads will play home and away match fixtures as part of the AOC Elite Rugby League competition.

Work Experience

Our students benefit from the very best work experience alongside their studies, both local and international. Students with support the Warriors Community Foundation Coaches, delivering sessions in primary and secondary schools. Supporting the Warriors backroom staff at home Super League fixtures at the DW Stadium. Students are also given the opportunity to travel across the globe to participate in our ‘International Work Experience Projects’.

  • Arvidsjaur - Sweden
  • Valencia – Spain
  • Sicily – Italy

14-16 School Offer

The Warriors Education provides schools with a fantastic opportunity for Year 10 & 11 pupils to study at our academy.
Pupils follow a set timetable, attend weekly lessons delivered by the Warriors education team, engage in the varied experiences a professional sports club.
