Clubb Man 2017 - 12

Hi Guys,

First of all, thanks for the amazing support out in Perpignan the other week, to see so many make the trip over there is amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic. Just what we needed after a long day travelling.

We did it in one day this year, so it was an early start and off to the airport. We touched down in Perpignan and went straight to a hotel for a couple of hours to chill out before the match. Then it was off to the stadium to get ready. In many ways, it’s not much different to a trip to Hull or Leeds, the travel time is similar but obviously the weather is a bit different!

We really enjoyed the game there. Both teams had a lot at stake on that match so it was good for us to come away with the spoils. Catalans really put it to us, because they really needed that win, but luckily we held out and particularly our second half we put in some good plays and got the result at the end of it.

We’re gutted we couldn’t back that up back at the DW against Warrington, the game was there for the taking but we just weren’t able to take control as we’d have liked. We’ve talked a lot about being patient, but it was a game full of errors and penalties and when you give away penalties and get pegged back it makes you tired. We shouldn’t be doing that against any team, but sometimes it’s just the way the game goes. There’s no excuses though, we simply weren’t up to standard on Friday night.

Despite the result, it was a special night for Lockers (Sean O’Loughlin). He’s a great player, but even more so a great bloke. I played with him years ago when we were both in the England squad, and to be able to play alongside him again has been fantastic. He’s a special player, who has got us out of a few holes along the way. He goes about his business in such a professional and easy-going way, he really is a great role model and for him to reach 400 appearances for his hometown club is a great achievement.

We’re looking ahead now to Big One Week and the visit of Leeds on Friday. I really think you will see a different team this week, we’ve looked at some things that we want to change to get the result this week. Leeds are a completely different prospect to Warrington, Leeds have been pretty good this year but it’ll be maximum effort to make sure we get a win on Friday night and give the fans a performance that they deserve.

See you soon,
