Junior Nsemba opened the second half scoring, supporting a Jai Field break to put Wigan back ahead before Field then scored himself to make it 16-6 to Wigan. Match Report
The first minutes of the contest were an even split of possession, though Zach Eckersley came the closest to opening the score 8 minutes in, collecting a cut-out pass on the right edge but the winger was seen into touch by Lewis Martin to hand possession back to Hull.
After the 10 minute mark, Hull FC then had a good spell which saw them go close, before Batchelor put an offload out of the back – Adam Keighran the quickest to react and see out the danger for Wigan.
The testimonial man, Liam Marshall, was the player to break the deadlock. Sam Walters got a pass out of the back of a tackle to Jai Field who provided an excellent cut-out pass to the left wing for Marshall to score the opening try. From the touchline, Adam Keighran improved from the tee for a 6-0 lead.
The visitors responded just a few minutes later as a pass found Lewis Martin on the wing, rounding the defence before cutting back inside to get Hull FC on the board. Pryce converted the effort to level the scores at 6-all.
With the first half rounding-up Tom Forber looked to have gone over after Liam Farrell was held up just short but the referee denied the effort, leaving Hull FC back with the ball in hand.
It was the Warriors who struck first again in the second forty, this time Jai Field breaking through from inside his own half to find Junior Nsemba in support to finish off the move. Adam Keighran couldn’t add the extras from out wide this time as Wigan held the 10-6 lead.
Jai Field extended the lead for the Warriors just before the hour after being sent through the defensive line by Jack Farrimond. Adam Keighran converted the score to make it 16-6 to the Cherry & Whites who saw Noah Hodkinson, Dayon Sambou and George O’Loughlin enter the action.
Hull FC responded once more as Lewis Martin scored his, and Hull FC’s, second of the afternoon. Despite keeping the visitors out in the center of the field, a looping pass to the wing saw them find joy. Callum Kemp was unable to improve the score from the tee as it stood 16-10 in Wigan’s favour going into the final quarter.
Matt Peet’s side responded immediately, a crossfield kick saw Nsemba bat the ball back for Jack Farrimond to collect, the young scrum half dropping his shoulder to sell a dummy and go over. Farrimond converted his own score as it stood 22-10.
Lewis Martin completed his hat-trick as he once again found joy on the left edge, though Lloyd Kemp was unable to add the extras for 22-14 with just a few minutes remaining on the clock. Hull FC had the final say of the afternoon with Davy Litten diving in at the left edge, the conversion attempt was unsuccessful as the Warriors took the 22-18 victory.
