- England v Australia, Second Test, Saturday 1 November, 2:30pm K.O.
Jake Wardle has shared his excitement ahead of SATURDAY’S Second Ashes Test against Australia at THE Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Warriors centre played the full 80 minutes as England fell short in the Test opener at Wembley Stadium, with Reece Walsh and Angus Crichton each crossing twice for Australia before Daryl Clark added a consolation score.
Reflecting on the first Test, Wardle said: “It’s always a a proud moment when you can represent your country. Especially in an Ashes Series against Australia which is the pinnacle of anyone’s career and for sure it was special being out there at Wembley in front of my family.”
Despite the defeat, Wardle insists England will take plenty of positives into the Second Test: “The main thing is we’ve taken a lot of positives out the game whilst learning a lot of lessons. A lot of it comes down to fine-tuning and decision-making as there were times we didn’t pick the right one – myself included.”
Wardle added: “There’s a reason Australia sit as the world’s number one, but we got a feel for the way they play. Hopefully we can take the positives and use the training week we’ve had to get the result we need on Saturday.”
The Second Test will make further history as the first non-football event to be held at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, with a sold-out crowd of more than 52,000 to attend in Liverpool.
Sharing his excitement, Wardle said: “It’s a stadium where the crowd are right on top of you so the atmosphere is going to be electric. We’re in a do or die situation this week as we don’t want to lose the Ashes. A sold-out stadium will be behind us and we need to use that energy to get the result the support deserves.”
