Report
Wigan had the best opportunity of the opening 7 minutes as repeat errors from Hull KR allowed Wigan to attack deep in their half. After seeing Wardle stopped a few meters out the Warriors then played it right, Bevan French found a way round the defence but his inside ball to Farrell saw the skipper spill the ball as it remained 0-0.
French looked to have got Wigan on the board in the 13th minute as Liam Marshall sent a perfect kick through which French chased to touch down in front of the Hull KR supporter. The referee sent the effort up to the video referee who overturned the on-field decision of a try for a knock-on and once again the scores were still locked at 0-0.
Brad O’Neill was penalised in the 18th minute as he was sent to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle on Tyrone May as Hull KR had a chance to attack the Wigan line with the man advantage and they did so as Mikey Lewis broke through the defence to score the opening try of the game. Mourgue added the extras to give the Robins the 6-0 lead.
Hull KR added a second try with the extra man as shortly afterwards they created an overlap on the left edge to see Joe Burgess dive in for a second of the evening. From the touchline, Rhyse Martin was off target from the touchline as it stood 10-0.
With 10 seconds remaining of the opening half, a chip kick attempt from Jai Field was charged down before Rhyse Martin picked up the ball in an offside position. The Warriors opted for the two-pointer as Adam Keighran was handed the tee just past half-way. The penalty goal from 46m out was on target to send the teams in at 10-2 at the break.
Wigan got themselves back in the game 9 minutes into the second half as Jai Field broke the line, finding Harry Smith in support to race the rest of the way and dive over in front of the Wigan support in the Stretford End. Keighran couldn’t add the extras and was 10-6 in favour of Hull KR.
Hull KR added a further two points minutes later, as the Warriors were penalised for a ball steal 30m out. Martin kicked the penalty goal to make it 12-6.
Jez Litten extended the lead for the Rovers on the hour, as Hiku shimmied through to drop the ball back inside for the hooker to dart over. Rhyse Martin successfully converted from the tee to see the game at 18-6 going into the final quarter.
The Warriors looked for a way back into the game but the opportunities were seen out by the Hull KR defence as they were determined to maintain their lead in the Final but Hull KR had the final say of the day as Joe Burgess intercepted a pass to go over for his second of the evening and seal the win as Rhyse Martin converted for 24-6.
