Brad O’Neill has shared his excitement ahead of Saturday evening’s Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.
Speaking at Tuesday’s official Grand Final Media Event, O’Neill said: “I look around Old Trafford and you can never get bored of it. It’s a special stadium and being inside makes me even more excited for Saturday night. There isn’t an atmosphere like the Grand Final as all the fans are on top of you.”
Discussing the week leading into the Grand Final, O’Neill said: “In terms of training our week is the same as it would be for any other game. It’s differs with media work, and on Friday we’ll come here as a team before staying in a hotel. It’s exciting because you are preparing for the last game of the year and it’s the big one. We’ve worked hard to be here all year and now’s the time to embrace it.”
Reflecting on previous Grand Finals, O’Neill said: “The first one I remember was 2010 when I was sat in that [East] stand there. [In 2023] walking out the tunnel and the build up was special, even more so to win it for the first time. The fact we get to play here again and recreate those moments for the fans is pretty special.”
Looking at Hull KR, O’Neill said: “We’ve had a few tough battles against them this year. They’ve been the best side to win the League Leaders’ Shield and Challenge Cup. It’s going to be a great game in which nothing but our best will get the job done. We’re all looking forward to the challenge, and we cannot wait for Saturday night.”
On the advantage of having a similar squad to 2024, O’Neill said: “It can be massive. It’s been pretty similar since Matty took over and the core players probably haven’t changed. We’ve built connections and we’ve been on the journey together, so to get another opportunity to add to the list on Saturday night is pretty special.”
Sharing his mindset, O’Neill said: “I’m proud to have been a part of the team last year and the success we had, but to miss out on the final piece was bittersweet. You never know when you’ll next be in these big games so I’m grateful we’ve got the chance to play here again this year. I won’t be taking this for granted.”
