- FT | Leigh Leopards 18-8 Wigan Warriors.
Matt Peet has shared his thoughts on his side’s Betfred Super League defeat to Leigh Leopards.
Despite first half points from Jake Wardle and Adam Keighran at Leigh Sports Village, the Leopards came from behind to claim the two points.
Speaking post-match, Peet said: “I thought it was an intense game as expected. I liked the way we went about our business in the first half, but in the second half we were second best. Leigh built the game off an excellent kick chase and in these conditions that’s pivotal. Leigh front loaded their energy which paid off.”
On the second half performance, Peet said: “We need to be more resilient in those periods when the other team has there moments which is always going to happen. Our response to points will be a major one to take away.”
On the intensity, Peet added: “The intensity is the nature of the game. We played with physicality, but we knew we’d have to bring it as well. When you put two tough teams on a wet field it ramps up the physicality and the importance of the kicking game. I thought we started in good shape, but Leigh came out the better.”
Praising Jack Farrimond, Peet said: “I liked his performance. Any team is going to target a young half-back in that situation, but I thought he stood up really well. He had a lot to deal with, but he will be better for it.”
On Liam Marshall and Abbas Miski, Peet said: “I’ve just thanked them then as they were both playing through the pain which I asked them to do. It was my decision to play them both and they committed whole heartedly. They are very tough men, and very important players for us.”
The Warriors return to action at The Brick Community Stadium next Friday night against Huddersfield Giants. Tickets are available to purchase online HERE.
